A Flower in the Garden of Life - My Friend Dan
By Carol Gibson
Friends are the flowers in the garden of life someone once said. They come in many shapes forms and kinds. There are friends at the neighborhood tavern. Then there are the close friends – the kind you trust to keep your confidence, to be there and listen, and be supportive. A friend is someone to be you with. Then there is the mysterious phenomenon of friends on the Internet. How does anyone know whom an Internet friend is when the person you somehow like may be far away on the other side of the world? Is the photo you may see really that person? Maybe there is no photo to see. Are they who they say they are? Just what is that makes you like this person? Many folks who meet up on the Internet end up with a life partner in a successful relationship. Evidentially, sincere relationships can develop. A friend who I met on a community board startled me at first. This person seemed too good to be true. He always had something upbeat to say, and displayed a childlike sense of being open and confiding. With the sensitivity of an artist, he would be hurt if anyone did not respond to his chat. Eventually, I came to understand this mystery person who did not submit a picture of his own likeness, but instead submitted a photo of a beautiful piano. Though still somewhat of an enigmatic person, he has become a true friend. Though the written word is an easy way to be deceiving, the trust we must establish should never be broken. So what we look for is the voice behind the lines. The process is totally intuitive, but somehow we just know. I was one of the people who didn’t respond to Dan Reveal’s communication. His charm was disarming. But, after a time, I learned that he backed up his words with sincerity. He is one of those people that care about people. He has been there supporting the sometimes difficult journey that being an Internet writer entails. Sometimes I mother him, but he puts up with me. He does not respond to gossip, and likewise seems to have a high standard of ethics. He even published an article in tribute to his grandmother. Much of his work is poetry, and he comes up with heartfelt content as well as powerful imagery. So, in thankfulness to a good man who’s out there in the virtual world doing good for others, I’d like to submit the address where his works can be found. I hope I can be as good of a friend as he is to me, and so many others. He is definitely a flower in the garden of my life.
